3-month eVisa Plan To Boost Tourism In Vietnam: Report

Passport holders in certain countries who are currently eligible for a one-month single entry e-visa for Vietnam could see their e-visa stay extended to three months under a proposal the Vietnamese government will submit to parliament.

According to a report by VnExpress outlet, the next parliamentary meeting will convene in May.

Vietnam is currently offering a one-month single entry eVisa to visitors from 80 countries, including the United States, China, Australia and India.

According to news outlets, visitors from certain European countries, Japan or South Korea, described as a major source market for the Vietnamese tourism industry, can currently stay for 15 days without applying for a tourist visa in Vietnam.

Vietnam has a casino industry, and all but one location is open to foreigners.

News of the possibility of easing restrictions on arrivals from designated venues comes as Asia-Pacific regions open up under widespread entry restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam eased several entry conditions as early as March last year. Vietnam received 3.6 million foreign tourists last year, about 20% of its pre-pandemic figure, according to a media report. The country aims to attract 8 million foreign tourists this year, it added.

Several Vietnamese airlines will resume flights between Vietnam and mainland Chinese cities this month, the same outlet recently reported.

In the fall, Vietnam and China agreed to boost bilateral cooperation on "cross-border gambling," among several law enforcement topics.
