Nagasaki Confirms IR Design Change, Maintains Budget

Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, has confirmed that there are some changes to its previously announced design regarding the casino resorts it hopes for the GGRA. Such plans are known in Japan as integrated resorts or "IRs."

In response to GGRA's inquiry, an official from the current integrated resort promotion department said, "We have changed to an architectural design using curved surfaces to increase the symbol."

But "there is no change in the cost of the project," the official added, which has previously been referred to as 350 billion yen ($3.09 billion).

The revised design was submitted to the Nagasaki prefectural council on Monday, local reports said.

Last Friday, the prefectural council member expressed concern over whether Nagasaki's private sector partner, Casino Austria International Japan Inc., would be able to find project finance and form an effective consortium for such a large-scale initiative.

The project will be carried out in Sasebo City (pictured), which is part of Nagasaki Prefecture, and in Huiten Bosch Theme Park in Sasebo.

The Japanese government held an application period on Oct. 1 for local governments to host casino resorts and announced the weights they would give when applying. The deadline for applications is April 28, 2022.
